Youth
For Understanding (YFU) is a national organization
that offers opportunities for young people around
the world to spend a summer, semester or year abroad
with a host family in another culture.
YFU has programs in
64 countries. It is one of the world's oldest, largest,
and most respected exchange organizations, and has
exemplified excellence in cultural exchange programs
worldwide since 1951.

YFU USA is committed
to preparing young people for responsibilities and
opportunities in a changing, interdependent world.
Working in partnership
with governments, corporations, foundations, schools,
and educators worldwide to create global learning
opportunities, YFU promotes international understanding
and world peace.

Panasonic has partnered
with YFU for many years. Annually the company sends
10 children of employees to Japan.
Beginning in 2001 Panasonic
added five minority students to their sponsorship
through a special program in partnership with the
National Urban League. The program is administered
by the Urban League of Hudson County with administrative
support from YFU.

To date, over 15 students
have been sent to Japan to live with a host family
for six weeks in June and July from Panasonics
Headquarters location in Hudson County, NJ.
In addition, over 15 students from Urban League affiliates
in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA and Pittsburgh,
PA, have also participated in this partnership and
traveled to Japan. Panasonic covers all expenses for
the program.
