The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) was founded in 1981. Founding members included Ted Arinson, founder of Carnival Cruise Lines, and Larry Rosen of GRP Records (formerly under MCA/Universal Studios).

Headquartered in Miami, Florida, their mission is to identify emerging artists and assist them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development, and to raise appreciation for and support of, the arts in American society.

NFAA serves as a springboard for successful careers in the arts by helping young artists realize and pursue their dreams in the fields of classical, jazz and popular music, voice, dance, film and video, photography, theater, visual arts and writing. Panasonic has supported NFAA for the past 9 years by providing funding to support the Panasonic named ARTS Award winner in video.

Approximately 125 students receive scholarships to participate in ARTS week in Miami, Florida in January. The students, all high school seniors, are selected from over 7,000 applicants in the performing and visual arts throughout the U.S.

The ARTS scholarship includes an unrestricted cash award and covers the cost of all activities associated with ARTS week. The winning student participates in workshops, master classes, and career guidance activities designed specifically for film and video artists.

Several of the ARTS week winners have been selected to be Presidential Scholars and are recognized at the White House at a ceremony with the President.
